Vinyl Recycling

Recycle vinylEikenhout has been offering recycling for our siding customers since 1996 and have officially gone national with the latest blog from Peter Yost at GreenBuildingAdvisor.com.

Because of a very active Home Builder’s Association, Grand Rapids, MI was selected to be the one test area for vinyl recycling back in 1996.  According to Peter Yost, “Grand Rapids is at the forefront for job site recycling” and that was a quote from 1996.  Our community’s efforts were noted by others as being “cutting edge,” Yost said.

Eikenhout enthusiastically embraced this recycling of vinyl scraps, which at that time could account for 4% of vinyl material purchases, by offering our customers a place to bring their cut and leftover pieces.  Today we fill large dumpsters each month with material that is ground up and used in hundreds of products that utilize recycled pvc.

Being “green” isn’t always convenient but it is the right thing to do.  Our siding customers appreciate that they can drop off their leftover vinyl instead of throwing it in landfills.  This environmentally friendly habit has been ongoing at Eikenhout for fifteen years.  That’s a lot of dumpsters, tons of vinyl recycled, and the right thing to do.
