Coal Fires up GREEN Building

In this generation, coal generates most of the eletricity.  Like it or not, that is the reality.

America has regulated our coal plants so that they will not release fly ash in the environment like everyone witnessed in Beijing China during the Olympic games.  Fly ash is the residue or remains of the coal fired 1500 degree furnace that is used to generate electricity.  But what happens with this by product of coal?

Landfills.  We fill the ground with wasted residue as several hundred thousands tons of fly ash go into landfills every year.  This is where Certainteed Fiber Cement helps the situation.

They have discovered a way to actually strengthen their fiber cement siding by using fly ash as a key ingredient.  The result is a less dense, dimensionally stable siding that is amazingly strong and beautiful.  Now they have announced that they will be increasing their fly ash content from 30% to 50% which will divert over 100,000 tons of fly ash from landfill space every year.  The oldest name in fiber cement, Hardi Board has zero recycled content.
