Want to pay 60% less for your insulation?

What signals winters arrival in Michigan?  Is it the first sight of snow flakes or the car battery struggling to wake up your car?  No it is the arrival of the heat bill.  It is an annual ritual that begins each year with gasps and groans as the first “official” heat bills arrive in the mail.  Panic leads to turning down the thermostat, buying electric blankets and of course the TV Snuggles to warm up the family.

This year help is in the air.  Michigan building code has determined that most homes one year old and older are under insulated and could experience and immediate savings of 20% on their energy bill if it was re-insulated. The government is offering homeowners a 30% tax credit on the materials used to insulate their homes.  When doing your annual taxes you will receive a tax credit, not a deduction, that puts up to $1500 in your pocket.  In addition to the tax credit, DTE Consumer’s Energy is also offering their own credit for 30% of material cost if you insulate your house.  That is a total of 60% off of your material cost.

Insulating your attic is the most dramatic way to save energy and cost on your monthly heating bill.  If the material portion of the insulation job was $400 it would only cost you $260 plus you would experience an anticipated savings of 20% in your next month heating bill.

Who is eligible?  Everyone who has an attic.  These programs run through 2010.
