“Latest Changes and Requirements in Fall Protection Regulations”

Did you know….Falls accounted for 29% of construction workplace fatalities investigated by MIOSHA over the past five years?  MIOSHA, in partnership with the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB), is launching a “Residential Fall Protection Initiative” to help employers protect their workers and comply with the new requirements.  Eikenhout has invited Jim Getting, Senior Construction Safety Consultant, to speak at 2 seminars in 2 locations.

Deer Hunting Competition

It’s Back and Bigger than ever.  We mentioned this for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but for those of you who were hovering over your bait pile or sleeping in your tree stand, here are the rules .

New manager, new racking, new fence, new products – check.  But the party couldn’t begin on this Mt. Pleasant Grand re-Opening until our customers came to celebrate.  And on Thursday they came.

The pigs were roasted, the food was set up, the specials in place and lots of things to give away.  The parking lot filled up with pick up trucks and customers, and we couldn’t have been happier.

Brad Foland, the new store manager, had his wife Heidi and even his daughter Hailie involved in this big day.  To protect from customers fighting over the giveaways, little Hailie drew out the names of those who would win the grill, saw, radio and fishing pole.  Anyone that cute can’t pick a wrong name.

We appreciate all of our customers who made this a historic day in the growth of Eikenhout.  What started in Mt. Pleasant in 1988 continues to experience positive growth because of our customers who ask us tough questions and demand customer service that is knowledgeable and efficient. Thank you for celebrating with us and for being more than our customers, our friends.

In the midst of the frantic last minute details on the final day of Art Prize preparation, an Eikenhout truck is parked on the street ready to transport a huge stainless steel sculpture imitating life as a waterfall full of fragile italian glass.

Transporting such a valuable piece of art in a truck designed for heavy shingles and houses full of siding might be the biggest challenge.

It only has to travel from Zeeland, Mi and the workshop of Joshua Russell, sculptor and owner of Metal Image Design, to downtown Grand Rapids in front of the Public Library.  Twenty-five miles.  No breakage.  No scratches.  That is all that is requested.

After examining the sculpture Joshua determined that the skytrak was not needed.  We would manually lift this into an enclosed truck and carefully place it on its back structure.

“Your imagination is your only limitation,” says Regina Marie designer and collaborator of this child friendly bubblicious sculpture.

So after wrapping and strapping the artprize piece into the truck, we imagined that the Eikenhout truck would avoid all twists and bumps in the road to deliver a perfect product.  I hopped into the truck to drive it.  Wow, those bumps feel much bigger when you have artists counting on your expertise and precision to bring their collaboration it to its special venue unharmed and unscathed by the travel.

It worked.  She looked beautiful.  The team of Regina Marie, Joshua, family members and friends placed it on the hill in front of the Public Library.  The night was long but the results were stunning.  Cameras clicked often as the early crowds were taking it all in.  Regina Marie was as engaging as she was creative by making every admirer feel their importance to her work.  It’s her gift.

Be sure and stop by 111 Library St. to enjoy this cascading waterfall.  Follow the sun and water as they meander down the banks of colorful crafted glass while the wind blown structure transports you to an imaginative place where love can be touched and bubbles will carry you away.

Eikenhout has experienced a major personnel change and product expansion at their Mt. Pleasant store.  Brad Foland, who has successfully worked in the Lansing branch the last 6 years, has become the store manager at Mt. Pleasant.  He brings with him years of building experience, a vast product knowledge from working with most of the major accounts in the Lansing area and a genuine likability factor.

Mt. Pleasant has seen consistent progress during Melissa Kee’s management tenure and we are excited to have her head up the Inside Sales and bring her enthusiasm to the customers on the front line.  Brad Foland is repackaging the warehouse by adding new racks, expanding their product line, creating a fenced in yard and making it quicker and easier for customers to stop by and pick up their material.  Customers will immediately experience this streamlined efficiency.

Eikenhout has been a major part of the construction and remodeling of Mt. Pleasant and surrounding areas since 1988.  The purchase of a newer, larger and easier to reach warehouse began in 2002 when the store was moved on Corporate Dr. behind Meijer near 127.  Today the shingle yard has been expanded along with new racking in the warehouses that provide more products instantly available for our customers.
