Olympic Thoughts by Mike Chase

What is it about the Olympics that makes us swell with pride and patriotism?  The stories of these incredible athletes putting out a lifetime of effort for minutes of perfection and a gold medal genuinely inspires me.

How can you not like Apollo Ohno yawning and relaxing before he makes his blades defy physics.  Or how about Shaun White’s final snow board run after already securing the gold medal? He didn’t have to do it but after rotating 3 1/2 times and flipping twice he perfectly landed his own Double McTwist 1260.  His American spirit was on display.

Our success is directly dependent on the effort that we all put into it.  How many more laps around the ice did Ohno skate to achieve his dominant status, and how many more flips and falls on the half pipe did Shaun White practice until he became the standard bearer for snowboarding around the world?

At Eikenhout we also want to smartly outwork our competition.  There is no guarantee of success, but at the end of the day we can know that our dedicated effort will satisfy our customers and leave us with no regrets.  That is our mission statement at Eikenhout – “exceeding expectations.”

At the Olympics the line often blurs between individual effort and team sport.  Everyone cheers their teammates  on to the finish line.  Even the broader team of North America helped each other as seen during the ice dancing performances.  shawn_whiteThe Gold & Silver teams, from Canada and the United States respectively, practice and work out together while spurring each other on to being better.

I’ll continue watching the Olympics, and I hope you will to.  Get your popcorn ready, snacks in hand, favorite beverage chilled, and let’s support our team.  Go USA!
