We believe in community
Eikenhout is locally owned and operated by regular guys just like me. We believe in our community. I was taught that as a child.
My immigrant grandfather was a baker in the Netherlands who moved to the USA in 1903. Shortly after they arrived, he and his brother started a local bakery on the west side of Grand Rapids called Sonneveldt bakery, then later named Buttercup Bakery and finally named Arnie’s Bakery and Restaurant in 1969. My dad taught high school students until he joined his brothers in Sonneveldt Distributing which supplied the bakery and fast food industry. Later my dad became the mayor of Grand Rapids.
After my service in the Army, I began working at Eikenhout. A lot of things has changed in my tenure at Eikenhout, but our focus on family, community and hard work has never wavered. Its how we were raised.
