Should I Wear a Mask by Greg
As I boarded a plane last week to attend a business meeting, I was feeling a little under the weather. I had missed a meeting the prior week due to the onslaught of this head cold, influenza, bird/swine/sinus/crud, who-knows-what-it-is stuff. I was now well over the worst of it, but still had a raspy voice and a lingering cough.
Sitting in my seat before take-off, I wondered what those around me were thinking. Who wants to sit next to someone whose demeanor alerts everyone that they’ve been sick for a few days. What an unfortunate time for them to have only 3 ounces of hand sanitizer.
While on the trip I noticed a phenomenon which is popular in some cultures and rapidly spreading throughout America which is that of wearing dust masks or surgical masks.
I suppose that some think it is the ultimate in “flu protection.”
This proactive response of wearing a mask, taking Airborne, and the constant washing of hands, instead of accepting sickness and taking NyQuil to help you sleep makes common sense.
It reminds me of some of the reasons why E Squared is being featured as Eikenhout’s mission. We want to lead rather than react and show new innovation rather than doing what we’ve always done. We want to Exceed Expectations of all of our customers.
I’m feeling better, nearly 100%. I can’t wait to see what I will learn on my next asymptomatic trip. Maybe I better go buy a mask.
