Sunshine & Pizzas by Greg

After a much needed dose of sunshine, we have now shifted into a gray cloud week.  This one, however, holds a promise of spring.  I’m hoping for enough rain to wash the streets clean from the winter salt and grime, and then maybe I’ll be able to keep a car clean for more than a couple of days.DSCN1192

My back yard will soon be getting a new fixture.  My winter daydream has been to construct a wood fired pizza oven and after months of meticulous research and design efforts I began the project.

I finished building the cement block stand last fall, but ran out of good weather before I could begin laying bricks.  As some of you know, I’ve been trying to figure out how to make a half sphere with a 36” diameter so that I can cut and dry stack the brick while the weather is bad.  Last week my son Jack and I found a 36” balloon and decided to paper mache it.  I really did pay attention during art class.  We had our first nice wet layer of paper on it before it inexplicably exploded (Fortunately I did get it cleaned off the ceiling before my wife saw it).   Now I think I’ll just wait the weather out, cut bricks and mortar them in as I go.

“I’ll just wait the weather out” seems to be what we do in the month of March.  We all know what’s coming; snow, rain, sunshine, daylight savings, stretches of warmer weather, and homeowners discovering that there has been some winter damage that needs to be fixed.  The phone starts to ring, and the next thing we know it’s the middle of the summer.

At Eikenhout, we’re using March as a preparation month.  We’re checking our equipment, making sure inventories are in place, doing some employee training, and running a few more contractor seminars.   We encourage you to stop by and visit our showrooms, re-connect with our inside sales team, and get ready for a great year.
