Questions when purchasing wood windows
How much wood is in the hidden part of the actual frame? This is where manufacturers cheapen their product first.
If the sash is aluminum cladded, what type of joints do you see? Coped, which is the traditional stile and rail or mitered, which is much weaker.
Does the tip in feature of the sash work easily and can you remove the sash without having to detach chords, etc.?
What is the setback and reveal of the sash? The deeper the setback the better the performance and the better the look of traditional windows.
What colors are standard and what colors are optional and cost more?
Are there a history of lawsuits against the window company and if so what was the outcome?
Does it have extruded aluminum cladding (thick and strong) or roll form aluminum (flimsy and weak)?
What does the warranty cover and for how long?
Can you easily remove and re-install the wood grids without damaging the window?
Can you customize your grid options and sizing or does it only have standard one size fits all options?
Bonus question: Does it offer a rigid nailing fin for a solid square installation?
